Varicose Veins

Varicose veins are not only unsightly, but can also cause debilitating symptoms such as pain and aching, discolouration and scarring of the skin, or even ulceration.

Varicose Veins

Superficial venous disease is when the superficial veins (veins under the skin) don’t work as they should. The veins may suffer from insufficiency (valves don’t work) which may cause the veins to dilate and become varicose from the build-up of pressure over a long period of time. This leads to Varicose Veins which are not only unsightly, but can also cause debilitating symptoms such as pain and aching, discolouration and scarring of the skin, or even ulceration.

Spider Veins (also known as telengiectasia’s)

Spider veins are tiny veins just under the skin which can become dilated and visible. These veins often cluster on the backs of the legs and around the ankles, but can occur anywhere. These veins are unsightly and can cause people to become embarressed of wearing shorts or skirts. Sometimes these veins can occur in isolation, however they are commonly associated with other underlying venous disease, so it is important to have a thorough assessment of your veins by a qualified specialist to ensure the underlying cause not just the symptoms are being treated. After treating any underlying cause, spider veins can be treated with micro-sclerotherpy which involves tiny injections into the veins which cause them to block and over time the veins fade, become reabsorbed and are no longer visible.
